6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Taiwan with Initial Reports of Recovery

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck the Taiwan region on Saturday evening, with no initial reports of severe damage.

The USGS indicated that the earthquake occurred at 11:05 PM local time, and the epicenter was located 31 kilometers (19 miles) east of the coast of Yilan City in Taiwan.

In this context, the CNN team based in Taipei, including Will Ripley, Wayne Chang, and Caitlin Danaher, noted the impact of the tremors felt during the earthquake, observing increased shaking of interior lighting inside their apartment.
