US President Trump confirms support for Benjamin Netanyahu’s pardon request, claiming confirmation from Isaac Herzog
U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support on Monday for the pardon request submitted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump, with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu by his side while at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, indicated that Israeli President Isaac Herzog confirmed to him that the pardon is “on its way” to being issued.
Trump said: “How can a pardon not be granted? He is a wartime prime minister, and he is a hero,” citing Netanyahu’s character.
Trump added that he held a conversation with President Herzog during which he confirmed “that the pardon is on its way.”
In contrast, the office of Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued an official statement denying President Trump’s account, noting that no communication took place between the two parties consistent with what the U.S. President mentioned.
