Syria Launches New Currency to Strengthen Monetary and Economic Reform Path
Damascus, Syria (United News Network – UNN) – Syria launched its new national currency today, Monday, in a step marking the beginning of a new phase, as phrased by the Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa.
President al-Sharaa stated that this new currency represents “the title of the fall of a previous phase that will not be missed, and is considered the beginning of the overall norms of the new phase.”
During a celebration at the Palace of Congresses in Damascus, attended by his spouse, Latifa al-Deroubi, al-Sharaa explained that replacing the Syrian currency is not merely an update but a “precise surgical operation of paramount importance in the path of transforming the country’s monetary status toward international markets.”
In his speech, he noted the conclusion of “more than three years of lengthy discussions, and that there are many previous international experiences regarding currency replacement and the removal of zeros, which contributed to crystallizing this measure.”
