Egyptian government platforms have published new photos of the Egyptian football icon and former star Hassan Shehata to debunk rumors that spread regarding his death following a period of inactivity in recent days.
Rumors of the passing of Shehata—the coach of the Egyptian national team’s “Golden Era” who led the team to three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles—had circulated just before the Egyptian national team’s semi-final match against Senegal in the current Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports, visited Captain Hassan Shehata at his home to check on his health.
The visit comes as Shehata returns home after being discharged from the hospital several days ago to continue his recovery.
During the visit, the Minister of Youth and Sports expressed his sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for Captain Hassan Shehata, praising his historical achievements for Egyptian football and his significant role in raising Egypt’s name high at both the continental and international levels. He emphasized that national sports icons receive full support and appreciation.
