Élysée Clarifies Macron’s Bloodshot Eye: Small Burst Blood Vessel With No Health Risk
The French presidential Élysée Palace confirmed that President Emmanuel Macron’s appearance with a congested and reddened right eye was due to a small burst blood vessel, and is not a serious health issue.
Le Parisien newspaper quoted a statement from the French presidency administration saying: “It is just a minor hemorrhage from a blood vessel in the eye. There is nothing serious about it.” This bleeding, medically known as a subconjunctival hemorrhage, is a benign and normal condition that poses no risk to the patient’s health.
Macron appeared in this condition last Thursday during a speech delivered to the armed forces at the Istres Air Base located in southern France. The President arrived at the venue wearing sunglasses, which he kept on until entering the building, suggesting he did so to avoid focus on his eye’s appearance.
Upon addressing the soldiers, the French President jokingly commented on his appearance, saying: “I apologize for the unesthetic appearance of my eye. This can be considered a reference to the ‘Eye of the Tiger’,” suggesting that the hemorrhage could be a symbol of strength and defiance.
CNews television channel speculated that Macron’s reference to the “Eye of the Tiger” might be linked to the song “Eye of the Tiger” by the American band Survivor, which became famous as the soundtrack for the action movie “Rocky III” (1982) starring Sylvester Stallone, symbolizing strength and challenge.
