White House Announces Names of “Peace Council” Members Chaired by Trump for Gaza Reconstruction and Governance

The White House announced on Friday the names of the members of the “Peace Council” chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, which will manage the Gaza reconstruction process, in addition to the formation of a technocratic committee dedicated to managing the daily affairs of the Strip.

The “Founding Executive Council” of the Peace Committee includes prominent names, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff, the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair being selected.

This step represents part of a peace agreement that the United States helped mediate last year, which includes the formation of a committee of Palestinian technocrats to oversee Gaza’s affairs, in the context of U.S. efforts to move forward with plans for reconstruction and the demilitarization of the Strip.

This committee is intended to manage Gaza’s affairs until a reformed Palestinian Authority takes charge, which could lead to what the plan calls a “credible path toward the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood.”

The White House announced the selection of Dr. Ali Shaath, a Palestinian from Gaza who previously held several positions in the Palestinian Authority, to head the committee. The committee will focus on “restoring essential public services, rebuilding civil institutions, and stabilizing daily life in Gaza, while laying the foundations for long-term sustainable governance.”

The White House statement said, “Dr. Ali Shaath will lead the committee to manage Gaza; he is a widely respected technocratic leader who will oversee the restoration of essential public services, the rebuilding of civil institutions, and the stabilization of daily life in Gaza, while laying the foundations for long-term sustainable governance.”

In the same statement, the White House added that “Dr. Shaath possesses extensive experience in public administration, economic development, and international work, and is highly respected for his practical technocratic leadership and deep understanding of the institutional reality in Gaza.”

In a related context, Bulgarian politician and diplomat Nickolay Mladenov, who previously served as the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, was chosen to serve as the High Representative for Gaza.

The White House emphasized that “this achievement is fully consistent with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), which endorsed President Trump’s comprehensive plan and welcomed the establishment of the Peace Council.”

The White House noted that “the Peace Council will play a pivotal role in achieving all items of the President’s twenty-point plan by providing strategic oversight, mobilizing international resources, and ensuring accountability during Gaza’s transition from conflict to peace and development.”
