A serious new development last night sparked widespread concern within Israel, described by Hebrew media as affecting one of the country’s most sensitive sectors.

Hebrew reports stated that forces from the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Israeli Police conducted a series of simultaneous raids in several areas across the country, including Elad, Beitar Illit, and Modi’in Illit. Sources added that the operation resulted in the arrest of several young men and religious school (yeshiva) students as part of strictly confidential investigations.

According to the official announcement, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court issued a comprehensive gag order on the case at the request of the Central Unit of the “Shai” District Police. The restraining order covers the identities of the suspects, details of the investigation, and the nature of the security materials under suspicion, underscoring the sensitivity and gravity of the matter.

Hebrew sources confirmed that the central suspicion inherent in the case is “contact with a foreign agent.” The detainees are expected to be brought before detention extension hearings over the next few days, which are anticipated to take place behind closed doors in accordance with the issued gag order.

This development coincides with Israeli media outlets, including the “i24” channel, describing the case as one of the most serious espionage files currently under investigation. This comes amid previous revelations regarding the involvement of a Givati Brigade soldier in communicating with Iranian intelligence entities.

According to the channel, the detained soldier, who has served for over a year, is accused of leaking photos and videos of sensitive military sites, including locations inside IDF bases, in addition to information about combat means and the types of weapons and ammunition used by the army.

Sources indicated that the Military Prosecution has filed a very serious indictment against the soldier, including contact with a foreign agent, delivering information to the enemy, impersonation, and obstruction of justice.

Observers point out that the synchronization of these cases and the application of wide-ranging gag orders reflect a state of confusion and deep concern within the Israeli security establishment, in light of the rising number of intelligence breaches even within the ranks of the army and social environments long considered “security-immune.”
