Official Warnings Following the Spread of the Controversial “Boiling Tea Challenge” in Egypt
A phenomenon known as the “Boiling Tea Challenge” has sparked a wide wave of controversy across social media platforms in Egypt over the past few days, coinciding with the spread of public video clips.
The widely circulated videos show some young people pouring boiling tea on their hands or the hands of their friends under the guise of what is called a “friendship and endurance test.” These extreme actions have necessitated the issuance of urgent warnings from official authorities.
According to the views of participants in these attempts, the phenomenon is seen as a way to test personal resilience against pain, in addition to promoting the idea of linking the ability to endure with expressing the strength of friendships. They believe that immediately withdrawing the hand in the face of heat is considered a sign of a weak relationship.
However, experts and observers have pointed out that the current trend does not represent any correct or scientific concept for measuring the strength of human bonds.
