Key Developments in the Syrian Crisis: Al-Sudani and Al-Sharaa Discuss Border Security and Counter-Terrorism

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani received a phone call on Tuesday evening from the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmed al-Sharaa, during which they discussed the evolving situation in Syria and the security challenges it faces.

Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s strong commitment to enhancing Syria’s security and stability, stressing the pivotal role of adopting peaceful dialogue as the best means to achieve just solutions to crises, ensuring the rights of all segments of the Syrian people and upholding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Syrian state.

In turn, President al-Sharaa noted Syria’s commitment to securing the shared borders with Iraq, praising the Iraqi government’s efforts and tangible measures in this context, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination between the two countries.

Both countries stressed the need to bolster joint security coordination, particularly in the areas of border protection and the tracking and pursuit of the remaining remnants of the “ISIS” terrorist organization, while noting the importance of resuming coordination to open the border crossings between them.
