Iraqi Prime Minister concludes a field tour covering the border with Syria

Al-Sudani departs following a reconnaissance tour along the Iraqi-Syrian border

The Prime Minister of Iraq and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, returned to the capital, Baghdad, today, Wednesday, after completing a field tour that included the Iraqi-Syrian border areas.

The tour, which began in the Al-Qaim district of Anbar Province in the west and extended to the Sinjar district in Nineveh Province in the north, involved a series of visits and detailed field follow-ups. A statement from Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s media office noted that the tour included several important activities and assessments.

The tour featured a visit to the Ain al-Asad Airbase, following the official handover of duties at the base from the International Coalition to Iraqi forces. He also conducted a reconnaissance of the Iraqi-Syrian border in the Al-Qaim area accompanied by security leaders and chaired a security meeting at the headquarters of the Iraqi Army’s 7th Division. As part of the tour, Al-Sudani conducted an “aerial reconnaissance” of the border strip between the provinces of Anbar and Nineveh.

The Prime Minister then headed to Nineveh Province, where he inspected the headquarters of the Border Guard Forces (Sixth Region) in the Sinjar district and chaired another security meeting at the region’s Border Guard command headquarters. He also inspected one of the border points belonging to the Sixth Region on the shared border with Syria.

During his inspection of a security point in Sinjar, Al-Sudani praised the efforts of the officers and personnel, emphasizing that the visit aimed to monitor the situation on the ground and assess achievements and future paths.
