Venezuelan foreign minister confirms strengthening bilateral relations with Russia in a meeting with Moscow’s ambassador
The minister wrote on his Telegram channel: “We held a meeting with the Russian ambassador to our country, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, during which we discussed bilateral relations and solidarity between our peoples.”
The United States used unprecedented weapons in Venezuela
The minister noted that his government expressed its gratitude to Russia for defending the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, “first and foremost, non-interference and the rejection of the use of force in violation of state sovereignty.”
The minister also highlighted Russia’s support for Venezuela following the United States’ abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, considering this act illegal under international law.
The Venezuelan foreign minister added: “We reaffirmed our strong strategic alliance, which focuses on political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation within the framework of the high-level intergovernmental commission and the strategic partnership and cooperation agreement.”
It is worth noting that on January 3, the United States launched a large-scale attack on Venezuela, resulting in the arrest of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores and their transfer to New York.
U.S. authorities accuse Maduro and his wife of involvement in “narco-terrorism.”
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would reap hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars from Venezuelan oil sales. Trump did not specify a precise timeframe for the duration of U.S. control over Venezuela, but said it would be “much longer” than a year.
