The Russian Central Bank announced in an official statement that it has filed a lawsuit before the Arbitration Court in Moscow against the company “Euroclear,” accusing it of committing illegal acts that caused financial losses to the bank.
The statement mentioned that the lawsuit demands compensation for losses resulting from the illegal acts committed by “Euroclear,” in addition to the measures being considered by the European Commission to use the assets of the Russian Central Bank without its consent.
The Russian Central Bank condemned any unagreed use of Russian gold and foreign currency reserves, considering it an illegal procedure and contrary to international law, including a violation of the principle of sovereign immunity of assets.
The Russian Central Bank expressed its readiness to file lawsuits in all competent bodies against any procedures that the European Commission might take to disrupt or confiscate these reserves.
It is worth noting that about 300 billion euros of Russia’s foreign reserves have been frozen since the start of the military operation, most of which are in Europe, where “Euroclear” alone holds 180 billion. The statement indicated that the European Union had transferred 18.1 billion euros from the revenues of these assets to Ukraine until last November, while Moscow rejects the principle of “compensation” and describes these measures as “organized theft.”
