Unprecedented Growth in Saudi Arabia’s Point-of-Sale (POS) Operations During the Past Week
The number of Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from December 7 to 13, 2025, reached (236,121,000) transactions, with a total value of (13,311,312,000) Saudi Riyals, compared to (14,447,659,000) Riyals for the same previous period.
In detail, the Saudi Central Bank’s weekly POS bulletin showed that the number of transactions in the transport sector reached (5,962,000) transactions worth (919,571,000) Riyals, while health sector transactions recorded (9,693,000) operations valued at (809,856,000) Riyals.
The restaurants and cafes sector witnessed a notable increase, reaching (58,489,000) transactions worth (1,723,668,000) Riyals, while transactions in the bakery and sweets sector exceeded the (7,479,000) mark with a value of (264,718,000) Riyals. The hotel sector recorded (863,000) transactions worth (373,541,000) Riyals, and the food and beverage sector registered (53,895,000) transactions valued at (2,012,985,000) Riyals.
In the clothing and accessories sector, the number of transactions was (9,926,000) worth (1,163,920,000) Riyals, while the culture and recreation sector transactions crossed the threshold of (4,036,000) operations valued at (326,098,000) Riyals.
On the other hand, the number of transactions in the professional and business services sector reached (12,529,000) worth (772,590,000) Riyals, while the electronic and electrical devices sector recorded (1,830,000) transactions valued at (184,309,000) Riyals.
The furniture and home supplies sector saw growth reaching (2,710,000) transactions worth (465,024,000) Riyals, and the construction and building materials sector recorded (2,567,000) transactions worth (407,323,000) Riyals. The jewelry sector reached (278,000) transactions valued at (329,708,000) Riyals, while the telecommunications sector recorded (4,258,000) operations worth (174,666,000) Riyals. Education sector transactions exceeded the (187,000) mark with a value of (124,911,000) Riyals.
In other sectors, public utilities and services transactions reached (855,000) worth (51,650,000) Riyals, while gas station transactions recorded (17,691,000) operations valued at (998,282,000) Riyals.
The laundry services sector experienced growth reaching (2,825,000) transactions worth (51,582,000) Riyals, while transactions in other sectors exceeded the (40,048,000) mark with a value of (2,156,664,000) Riyals.
At the city level, weekly POS transactions in Riyadh reached (74,567,000) operations worth (4,634,312,000) Riyals, while Mecca recorded (9,531,000) transactions valued at (568,564,000) Riyals. Meanwhile, Medina recorded (9,485,000) transactions worth (551,118,000) Riyals.
In Tabuk, the number of POS transactions reached (4,701,000) worth (239,754,000) Riyals, while Hail recorded (4,038,000) transactions valued at (210,696,000) Riyals. Abha recorded (3,015,000) transactions worth (147,657,000) Riyals, and Buraidah exceeded the threshold of (5,354,000) transactions valued at (331,175,000) Riyals.
As for Al-Khobar, the number of POS transactions reached (5,055,000) worth (388,496,000) Riyals, while Dammam recorded (9,668,000) transactions valued at (651,554,000) Riyals. Jeddah recorded (27,395,000) transactions worth (1,774,933,000) Riyals, while other cities exceeded the threshold of (25,119,000) operations valued at (991,930,000) Riyals.
