The Israeli military responded to the film “Naza,” directed by two Israeli filmmakers and dealing with the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip, denying the allegations contained in it and saying: “These claims are untrue, and we are a moral army.”
Israeli military spokesman Brigadier General “Efi Defrin” said that the film had not yet been released in full, but that the trailer contains “a series of serious and false allegations against the military and its personnel,” stressing that some of them had been presented in a distorted and misrepresented manner and detached from the reality on the ground.
“Defrin” stressed that the Israeli military is “a moral army that operates in accordance with international law and under binding professional values and standards,” affirming that these rules are what it has adhered to over the past three years and will continue to adhere to even under the most difficult combat conditions, in defense of the military institution’s conduct in the field.
The spokesman called on the filmmakers to allow military representatives to watch the film in full, with the aim of holding “an objective and professional discussion based on facts,” and allowing the military to respond objectively to every allegation contained in it.
The documentary won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival last Saturday. It was directed by Israelis “Yuval Abraham” and “Rachel Tsor,” who also won an Academy Award in 2025 for the film “No Other Land,” which dealt with violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
“Naza” sparked widespread controversy in Israel, as Israeli Culture Minister “Miki Zohar” called for the filmmakers to be stripped of their Israeli citizenship, accusing them of “high treason.”
