Syrian authorities confirmed that no deaths were recorded as a result of an explosion that occurred at an ammunition depot at one of the Syrian army’s sites in the “Al-Eis” area in the southern countryside of Aleppo.
Aleppo Governor “Azzam Al-Gharib” said in a statement today, Monday, that the explosion did not result in any deaths, while the injuries were limited to minor cases. He added that teams from the Ministries of Defense and Emergency Affairs had been working at the site since the morning in a gradual and cautious manner, in case there were any risks or further explosions, out of concern for everyone’s safety. He explained that the teams were surveying the nearby villages and homes and the area surrounding the site to verify that there were no injuries and to deal with any objects or remnants that could pose a danger.
Al-Gharib called on residents to stay away from the scene of the incident and immediately report any unfamiliar or suspicious object, without touching or moving it, leaving its handling to the competent authorities. He stressed that field monitoring would continue until security procedures were completed and the safety of residents was ensured. Several explosions had been heard in areas of the western and northern countryside of Aleppo, amid intense flames.
The Syrian Civil Defense, affiliated with the Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management, reported in a preliminary toll that one civilian was injured by shrapnel as a result of the explosions, in addition to two civilians suffering temporary breathing difficulties, and another civilian being injured in a traffic accident while attempting to leave the area. The Civil Defense also said that three families had been evacuated from the vicinity of the site, while the relevant authorities imposed a security cordon around the area and prohibited traffic and access to the explosion site.
Syrian authorities had announced several days ago that 11 army personnel were killed in an explosion of unknown origin inside a military storage facility in the “Ayash” area west of Deir ez-Zor.
On September 9, 14 people were killed and 11 others injured in an explosion at a temporary warehouse used to collect weapons and remnants of war near “Sarmada” in “Idlib,” while five people were killed earlier that same month after a vehicle loaded with ammunition exploded in the same governorate.
