Vital road in Ad Dawadmi remains without lighting despite closure of reported maintenance tickets

3 Min Read

A number of commuters on the Ad Dawadmi – Shaqra road, specifically at the intersection with the road coming from Al-Quway’iyah governorate, have expressed their ongoing concern regarding the prolonged failure of street lighting poles. They emphasized that the surrounding darkness poses a severe danger to traffic, especially during night hours.

Citizens pointed out that the southern side of the road includes six lighting poles containing 11 lamps that have not been operated since they were installed. In contrast, the poles on the northern side of this intersection operate efficiently, even though the southern side is a vital corridor linking multiple main roads, most notably the (Al-Quway’iyah – Ad Dawadmi) dual carriageway, Ar Rayn governorate, and the (Riyadh – Taif) highway.

One complainant stated that he submitted several reports via the “Madinati” application to alert the competent authorities to the problem, but the responses he received caused significant dissatisfaction. One report was closed with the claim that the poles belong to the electricity company or that there is difficulty in delivering power to them. Another report was closed as “Executed,” despite the fact that the repair was only temporary. A third report was referred to the Ministry of Transport, which replied that the mentioned site falls outside its jurisdiction.

Citizens strongly questioned the reasons for installing these poles if they were to remain inoperable, as well as why poles on only one side of the intersection were operated while the other side remains shrouded in darkness, despite the traffic importance and congestion of the area.

Local residents called on the competent authorities, led by the Riyadh Region Municipality, to intervene quickly and address the defect in the road lights. They also demanded that these authorities clarify the reasons causing the continued lighting failure, especially since the poles are already installed and equipped.

“Sabq” attempted to contact the Riyadh Region Municipality to inquire about this matter, but as of the preparation of this report, no official comment has been issued.
