Photographer Sara Haroon faced several risks while being close to the action during football matches.

“In a match between Trabzonspor and Aston Villa, I was suddenly knocked to the ground because of fans throwing stones,” Haroon said.

Stones were not the only danger; there was also the fire of football legends directed toward the goal.

“Wayne Rooney, during training, knocked me down one day,” she said and added.

“Dennis Irwin shot at the goal, but he knocked me down, and I think it was Bryan Robson who turned and said: ‘If you want to kill a photographer, Dennis, make sure it’s not the club chairman’s cousin!'”

Nevertheless, footballers were sometimes helpful when trying to get the perfect shot.

Before a European match involving Arsenal, Haroon spoke with former England and Gunners legend Ian Wright and asked him to perform his celebration in front of her if he scored.

Wright scored, but he started running in the opposite direction.

Haroon saw him to her amusement.

“You could see him going in the opposite direction, then stopping and turning around then coming back, [shouting] ‘Yes!’ with his arms outstretched, to the point that I had to use a wide-angle lens,” Haroon said. “Perfect shot!”
