4 Min Read

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued early weather alerts covering eight major geographical regions, warning citizens and residents of a multi-faceted weather condition. The warnings include dense foggy conditions and active surface winds kicking up dust and sand, leading to a significant decrease in horizontal visibility.

It is worth noting that this deteriorating weather condition began its impact since the dawn of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, and will continue through the evening hours today, according to weather forecasts and programmed time variables for each region separately, as reported by preliminary meteorological data.

Alert Details by Region:

Jazan Region: Warnings included various neighborhoods and governorates, including Al-Hurayth, Ad-Dayer, Ar-Reeth, Al-Ardah, Al-Aidabi, Fifa, and Herub. Forecasts indicate the formation of light fog whose impact may lead to a noticeable drop in horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. This weather phenomenon is expected to primarily affect the area from 01:00 AM to 08:00 AM.

Al-Jouf Region: Alerts in this region included both Al-Qurayat and Tubarjal governorates, where the NCM expects the formation of light fog, a major factor in reducing horizontal visibility. Forecasts highlight that the period most susceptible to this phenomenon begins at 02:00 AM until 08:00 AM.

Hail Region: Weather forecasts for the Hail region indicated an increase in surface wind activity, which usually kicks up dust and sand, affecting areas such as Ash-Shanan, Baqaa, Hail City, and Sumayrah. The impact period for this alert extends from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM.

Northern Borders Region: This region witnessed two different weather conditions. The first alert in Rafha governorate is characterized by significant surface wind activity kicking up dust, effective from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM. In contrast, Turaif governorate is experiencing another form of alert manifested as light fog during the period between 02:00 AM and 08:00 AM, leading to an expected decrease in visibility.

Asir Region: Alerts in this region included many governorates, including An-Namas, Balqarn, Tathlith, Abha, and Khamis Mushait. Forecasts predict the formation of light fog during the early night from 01:00 AM to 08:00 AM, resulting in a noticeable drop in horizontal visibility.

Qassim Region: This region was affected by comprehensive alerts covering wide governorates such as Al-Asyah, Al-Badaya, Al-Bukayriyah, At-Tamra, Ash-Shammasiyah, Al-Ammar, Al-Mithnab, Buraidah, Unaizah, and Uyun Al-Jiwa. The region is expected to experience raised dust and active surface winds starting from 09:00 AM and usually ending at 07:00 PM, causing a clear decrease in horizontal visibility.

Riyadh Region: Alerts reached the capital city, Riyadh, and included the governorates of Rumah, Al-Ghat, Al-Majma’ah, Shaqra, Thadig, Huraymila, Marat, and Dhurma. Similar to previous regions, forecasts indicate active winds and raised dust active from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM, inevitably leading to a significant reduction in visibility.

Eastern Province: Several weather alerts were issued for this region, varying in form and covering a large number of governorates and areas, including Jubail, Khobar, Dammam, Qatif, Ras Tanura, Al-Ahsa, Al-Udayd, Buqayq, Hafar Al-Batin, Al-Khafji, An-Nairyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya. The NCM expects that the phenomenon of raised dust, in addition to expected high waves at sea, will lead to near-zero visibility in some vital locations. These alerts affect the time period from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM.
