American political billionaire Donald Trump, following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirmed his strong commitment to supporting Israel, expressing his support for efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. Trump told Mr. Netanyahu: “We are with you and we will stay with you. You have been a good friend, and I have been a good friend to you and to Israel.” He added: “We have done a lot of good work with Netanyahu and we will continue… we will always be with you, we will stand by your side, and we will ensure that peace is brought to the Middle East.”
Mr. Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump, describing him by saying, “We have never had a friend to Israel like President Trump,” and emphasizing that the meeting was “extremely productive.” Mr. Netanyahu noted the granting of the “Israel Peace Prize” to Trump, describing it as “a high-level award that few ever receive,” and pointing out that “we have a partnership with the United States that has allowed for the achievement of many accomplishments.”
The repeated warnings directed at Hamas formed a central focus of the meeting, as Trump said: “We talked about Hamas, and they will have a short timeframe to give up their weapons… if Hamas does not give up its weapons, they will pay the price.” He added: “Hamas has a short time to disarm… the situation will be terrible if they don’t.”
Trump’s warning tone escalated when he mentioned that “some countries signed the Gaza agreement because Hamas pledged to disarm, and if they do not, these countries will destroy Hamas.”
Trump also addressed the issue of the West Bank and the violence there, saying: “I think we have reached many conclusions, and we will reach a conclusion regarding the West Bank… we agree with Israel on most matters.” However, he pointed to a difference of opinion regarding settler violence, stating: “We did not agree 100% on the issue of settler violence in the West Bank.”
For his part, Mr. Netanyahu spoke about conditions for reforms in the Palestinian Authority, expressing his hope to see “real reforms carried out by the Palestinian Authority to be a partner in governing Gaza,” emphasizing that “President Trump has set conditions for the reforms that the Palestinian Authority must carry out.”
Trump pointed to the prospects of regional normalization, predicting that “the Abraham Accords will be expanded fairly quickly,” referring to the agreements reached during his previous term to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab countries.
