Best-selling American author Colleen Hoover has revealed that she is undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with cancer.

The 46-year-old author, famous for her books “It Ends with Us” and “Reminders of Him,” aims to complete her radiation therapy sessions soon and noted that the surgery she underwent was successful.

Hoover shared this news publicly via an Instagram post this week, featuring a selfie of her in hospital attire.

In an additional message yesterday, Tuesday, she informed fans: “I have significantly regained my health. My cancer diagnosis dates back a while, but I chose to maintain privacy until I was certain the surgery was successful and understood what other treatments were required.”

This came after Hoover initially hinted at the news to her fans in a private Facebook conversation about a month ago, stating that the cancer had been removed and that she was “doing well.”

Large and Afraid

In a post to the “Colleen Hoover’s CoHorts” — her private fan group — she mentioned that she suffered from recurring health issues during 2025.

However, she set her fears aside during the filming of the movie adaptation of “Reminders of Him” in Canada and did not seek medical advice “until the filming was finished,” she added.

Once she returned home, the cancer diagnosis was confirmed.

She said: “I felt a little terrified at first, and I had to cancel my participation in the premiere of my movie ‘Regretting You’ and some other significant professional and family moments, but I wasn’t ready to share it with anyone until I knew the expected outcome.”

Hoover did not reveal the type of cancer she was diagnosed with.

In another Facebook post last week, she mentioned that her cancer might be related to environmental and lifestyle factors, such as “a lack of exercise, a poor diet, and high stress levels.”

“I am happy and grateful to be alive, but I hate vegetables,” she said. “I hate illnesses. I hate being vulnerable. I hate it when science hits me with health reality.”

She joked about her lifestyle adjustments, saying that if anyone saw her eating grilled chicken and drinking water at a restaurant, she was “likely losing her enjoyment of that meal.”

“I am Brave”

On Instagram this week, Hoover said she posted the hospital photo to show her appreciation for Texas Oncology — where she is receiving treatment — and because she had been keeping information about her diagnosis private “for as long as possible.”

She launched her new novel, “The Broken Woman,” her first since 2022, this week.

However, the author stated that her latest update regarding her cancer “is not an attempt to garner sympathy or ‘poor me’ feelings for the book release.”

Hoover, who has three children and lives in Texas, added that she had radiation treatment in Dallas on Monday morning and subsequently surprised fans with an appearance at a South Carolina bookstore hosting a midnight release festival for the book.

“Not because I’m faking anything, but because I am brave,” Hoover noted.

Her other works include the novel “It Ends with Us,” which has sold more than 20 million copies and was adapted into a 2024 film.

Meanwhile, the cinematic success of the film resonated widely in the media after its actor and director, Justin Baldoni, entered into a major legal battle with actress Blake Lively, who starred alongside him in the movie.
