Liverpool headline sparks fans’ outrage.. Arne Slot reacts: “I share the fans’ anger.”

Liverpool held to a goalless draw by Burnley, continuing a string of draws in the English Premier League

A period at the start of the second half felt like it was only a matter of time before Liverpool would add a second goal to Florian Wirtz’s first-half strike.

The famous chant “a team playing the Liverpool way” rang out from the Kop.

It wasn’t “heavy metal” football (the sudden pressing style), but after weeks of struggling to break down low blocks, Liverpool played with more momentum and put pressure behind Burnley’s defensive line.

Wirtz came close again before Gakpo attempted a header that was cleared off the line, but Burnley found an equalizer through Marcus Edwards to silence Anfield.

“I won’t say we were distracted, but we failed to clear the ball from the back. This is part of football. It summarizes a large part of our season, and today’s score is another example of that,” added the Liverpool manager.

Regarding Slot, frustrations continued. In hindsight, Dominik Szoboszlai converting the penalty in the first half would have made the match result different, but regardless of the goal they contributed to, Liverpool should have put the game to bed before Burnley scored the equalizer.

“It’s not the first time. I consider it generally worrying,” said the Liverpool manager. “It comes in different forms. Sometimes we score a goal in stoppage time and expect to win the game, then we concede another in stoppage time.”

“But yes, in football, one team can get two chances—one was almost an own goal—and score, while the other team gets multiple chances and also scores only one goal.”

It is now 12 matches without defeat, but what is worrying about Liverpool is that they are on a streak of four consecutive draws in the league, at least three of which they should have won.

Aside from the draw against Arsenal, they dropped points against Leeds and against Burnley at home, and failed to maintain a lead at Villa Park despite scoring in the 94th minute.

Those extra points alone would have pushed Liverpool to 42 points, seven points ahead of Manchester United in fifth place and just one point behind Manchester City and Aston Villa, who occupy second and third places.

“We have lost too many points when we didn’t deserve to, and we didn’t get points in cases where we deserved less,” the Liverpool manager reiterated his anger. “The only people to blame are ourselves.”

At least Liverpool can look forward to the return of Mohamed Salah in the coming days.

Salah also missed a penalty in the shootout between Egypt and Nigeria in the third-place match of the Africa Cup of Nations and will return to Merseyside in the next few days.

With Liverpool heading to a training camp next week, the presence of their star player again will undoubtedly be a positive for them.
