Cardiff complement moves to Y11 amid increasing frequency and doubts

The Rugby Football Union has announced the selection of a preferred bidder to purchase Cardiff Rugby, known to be the owners of the Ospreys, Y11, which has significantly increased the doubts and hesitation resulting from this situation in the region.

The doubts spread further due to statements from the Swansea Council, which announced its desire to explore legal options, with leader Rob Stewart disclosing to BBC Wales his expectation to meet with Rugby Football Union officials.

Stewart said: “We have requested more conversations with them, but we haven’t had anything yet.”

He added: “It is interesting that the threat of legal action by the council saw a meeting between the CEO of the Union and the Ospreys Y11 team, so we are interested to hear what they will say.”

Stewart called for a clearer assessment of the situation, saying: “It does not take a legal genius to see that the process followed by the Rugby Football Union is not a process that has been managed as successfully as it could be.”

Stewart confirmed that the redevelopment of the St Helen’s ground was not threatened by Y11’s proposals.

Stewart said: “We were clear; the Cabinet made a decision, which actually involves more than £5 million that we have committed to support the redevelopment of the stadium.”

He added: “This is conditional on the Ospreys being one of the regions selected to be permanently maintained, as part of the new arrangements proposed by the Rugby Football Union.”

What remains pending is a decision on which teams will remain, with Tierney announcing that the Rugby Football Union hopes to avoid a bidding process for the three available licenses.
