Ukrainian President “Volodymyr Zelenskyy” announced on Monday that at least two people had been killed in a Russian drone attack targeting the capital, Kyiv, calling on the United States to take firm action to pressure Moscow and end the war.
“Zelenskyy” wrote on social media that the attack was further evidence of the need to increase pressure on Russia, accusing Moscow of prolonging the war. He added: “We are counting on the United States to recognize these signals from Russia and act forcefully,” stressing that firmness is necessary to compel Moscow to end the war.
For his part, Kyiv Mayor “Vitalii Klitschko” said on Telegram that around 10 people had been injured in the attack, explaining that the drone struck a 25-story residential building in the eastern part of the capital, which has a population of around 3 million. Several cars also caught fire.
On Sunday, “Zelenskyy” accused Russia of continuing to target Ukrainian energy facilities, despite U.S. President “Donald Trump” announcing that an agreement had been reached to halt mutual attacks on energy infrastructure between Moscow and Kyiv.
“Zelenskyy” said on Facebook, following a conversation with European Commission President “Ursula von der Leyen,” that Russian forces had shelled a power plant in Kyiv before targeting energy facilities in the Kharkiv region, following “Trump’s” announcement of an energy-sector truce.
On Sunday, “Trump” announced on his platform, Truth Social, that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement to halt mutual attacks on energy infrastructure, saying: “As of now, there is an energy truce in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it!”
However, “Zelenskyy’s” office confirmed that it was unaware of any such agreement, while it remained unclear whether Russia had agreed to it.
Shortly before “Trump’s” announcement, “Zelenskyy” had renewed his call for an energy-sector truce and also called for a 60-day ceasefire to hold elections.
