The Spanish club Barcelona confirmed today, Monday, the injury of its player Andreas Christensen in his left knee, after suffering a sprain during Saturday’s training.
The club said in an official statement via the “X” platform that the medical scan showed the player suffered a partial tear in the anterior cruciate ligaments of his knee, as a result of an unwanted sprain of his knee.
It has been decided to adopt a conservative treatment plan for the player, after subjecting him to in-depth diagnostic procedures.
It is noteworthy that Andreas Christensen (29 years old) has played 97 matches for Barcelona since his move to the club in 2022, and has also played 79 matches for the Danish national team.
The severe injury is likely to prevent Christensen from participating in the final qualifying round match for the 2026 World Cup, which the Danish national team will play against North Macedonia on March 26, as part of the UEFA double-elimination competition.
The final match of the double-elimination will take place five days later, bringing together the winner of the Denmark vs. North Macedonia match and the winner of the Czech Republic vs. Ireland confrontation.
The winner of the controversial final match will qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, where they will be placed in Group A.
