Jersey Charity Affirms Support for Those in Need Throughout the Year
Jersey, St Helier, (Ashai Caitlin Klein and Julia Georgio) – A charity operating in Jersey has confirmed that it demonstrates the “Christian spirit all year round” in support of vulnerable citizens, emphasizing its quest to bring happiness to as many of them as possible.
The charity “St Helier Grace” (Thrive Grace), which assists between 700 and 750 people annually suffering from poverty, isolation, or addiction issues, said it is witnessing a “wide increase in the range of social groups benefiting from its services,” including new categories such as the elderly in need of community support.
The charity’s general manager, Vini Jones, said the foundation seeks to put a smile on people’s faces through its headquarters located on Lewis Street in St Helier. He added that it has provided assistance to 500 people annually through the services provided in its food bank, in addition to organizing singing and art events, illustrations, and weekend lunch sessions.
‘Just Show Up’
He said that extra and luxurious food was provided in the pantry, and 92 people recently attended a special Christmas dinner at St Paul’s Centre, with 20 volunteers on hand to help. He noted that performers from “Fiddlers Green” and the foundation’s “Parklife” choir provided entertainment during the ceremony.
He added that the foundation is seeing an increase in the number of people coming to it during Christian holidays, explaining that this may be because it is a difficult period for them. “Just show up there, look through the window, and we will give you what we have,” Jones said.
‘We Call for Tolerance’
He explained that the foundation “offers much more than what the food pantry and holiday lunch seem to be,” noting that people are often surprised by all the available activities. He encouraged them to have their own experiences.
He noted that the foundation has a fund to help in special cases and maintains relationships with its partners to provide toy vouchers during Christian holidays. He stressed that support is available throughout the year for people facing difficulties on the island. “All we need is to offer understanding and, above all, talk about January, and have conversations about February for them. We will be here to help,” Jones said.
The government also mentioned that residents should remember the availability of psychological support during the Christian holiday. It added that the Mental Health Crisis Team provides round-the-clock support at 445290. Support is also available from online platforms such as “Together” and “Together All.”
