Atletico Madrid coach Simeone apologizes to Vinícius Júnior

Madrid – United News Network – UNN: Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has apologized to Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior for his behavior toward him during the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.

Simeone directed some words at the 25-year-old Brazilian player Vinícius Júnior from the technical area, and reports indicated that the Argentine suggested that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez would trade his contract.

Vinícius, whose contract runs until the summer of 2027, helped his team defeat Atletico 2-1 in the semi-final held last Thursday, before Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-2 in a close final held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Simeone said: “I wish to apologize to Mr. Florentino and to Vinícius for the incident they witnessed.”

He added: “It was a mistake on my part to put myself in that position, and I accept that it was an error. The team that wins deserves to qualify; they are the rightful qualifiers.”

Simeone exchanged words with Vinícius when the player was substituted after 81 minutes of the match.

When asked if his behavior had crossed the line, Simeone remarked: “I apologize, but I am not asking for forgiveness. I have nothing more to add.”
