Urgent: Damascus rejects two promises from Tom Barrack to “SDF”

A source from the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) revealed to Rudaw Media Network the reasons for the failure to reach positive results in the meeting between SDF commander Mazloum Abdi and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, held on Monday.

The source reported that the US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, had previously presented “two promises to Mazloum Abdi.” The first stipulates that the SDF remain as a unified division within the Syrian Arab Army.

The source indicated that Barrack stated this point would not be put in writing out of consideration for public opinion, but it would be implemented. The second promise specifies that Kurds manage Kurdish areas and that there be a Kurdish administration.

The source confirmed that Mazloum Abdi traveled to Damascus to implement these two points, but Damascus officially rejected them, stating: “No… we will not accept them.”

The source addressed “rumors claiming that Mazloum Abdi lacks decision-making authority,” explaining that these allegations are an attempt to create a certain atmosphere. He emphasized: “Now, in order to place the responsibility for the failure to reach an agreement on the SDF, they say ‘Mazloum Abdi does not hold the decision.’ With this slander, they want to deceive the Kurdish leadership and the countries of the region.”

It is worth noting that the SDF leadership called on Monday night “all Kurds in Syria, North, South, and East Kurdistan, and Europe” to “join the ranks of the resistance in Syria.”
