CAF penalizes Algeria national team due to incidents in Nigeria match during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals
Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Algerian Football Federation revealed, through its official website on Wednesday, the sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the Algerian national team, known as the “Desert Warriors,” following the events of the Nigeria match held during the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match, which took place on January 10, is the focus of the imposed sanctions, as it witnessed protests by Algerian players against refereeing decisions, in addition to a brawl between Algerian and Nigerian players, and ongoing riots in the stadium stands.
The Algerian Football Federation is expected to issue an official statement detailing the sanctions incurred by the team.
