Hussein al-Sharaa comments on the extension of truces: “Harmful and carry negative intentions”

Hussein al-Sharaa, father of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, commented on the truces and their extension, referring to the truce recently agreed upon by the Damascus government and the “Syrian Democratic Forces.”

Hussein al-Sharaa said in a post on the “Facebook” platform: “I will say, and please pay attention to the issue of extending truces, for they are harmful and carry negative intentions.”

He added: “I hope they are not repeated because they do not serve the correct direction for the unity of the country and the achievement of national unity. In many past experiences, accepting them resulted in the loss of much of our land.”

Al-Sharaa continued: “Whoever reads about the first truce in Palestine in 1948 and others will remember how they were a disaster for those who accepted them.”

The father of the Syrian President stated that “investing momentum to achieve goals is fundamental, while a truce is a waste of time and a mobilization that benefits the enemy.”

Al-Sharaa concluded the post by saying: “Please do not repeat them, and God is the ultimate seeker of intent.”

The post preceded the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s announcement of an extension of the ceasefire in all army operational sectors for a period of 15 days.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement, “The ceasefire will begin as of 23:00 on January 24, 2026.”
