Jordanian Military Intercepts Iranian Missiles and Drones, Affirms Readiness to Counter Any Aerial Threat
The Jordanian military announced on Wednesday that it had intercepted a number of Iranian missiles and drones that entered the Kingdom’s airspace, confirming that its air defense systems engaged the threats immediately upon detection. Some projectiles fell in remote, uninhabited areas without causing any casualties or material damage.
The Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted an official source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, as saying that the air defense systems detected six missiles coming from Iranian territory and heading toward Jordanian territory, and engaged them immediately after they entered the Kingdom’s airspace.
The source explained that the air defense systems successfully intercepted and shot down four missiles, while the other two fell in two remote, uninhabited areas, noting that the incident resulted in no casualties or damage to property.
The source added that Royal Engineering Corps teams immediately moved to the sites where the two missiles landed, as well as to the locations where debris from the interception operations had fallen, securing the sites and dealing with the remnants in accordance with approved technical and security procedures.
The source confirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces continue to monitor the airspace around the clock through an integrated operational system, stressing that the military will respond to any aerial threat targeting the Kingdom’s territory in accordance with the applicable rules of engagement, in a manner that ensures the protection of national sovereignty and the safety of citizens.
Security Alert in Aqaba Following Activation of Air Raid Sirens
The operation coincided with a state of heightened alert in the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba, after local media reported that air raid sirens had sounded in response to a security threat that prompted an increase in the level of readiness.
Eyewitnesses also reported hearing explosions in the city’s skies, with reports suggesting that they resulted from anti-aircraft defenses and interceptor missiles used to engage the aerial targets.
This development comes amid continuing regional tensions that have prompted the Jordanian authorities to strengthen aerial surveillance measures and respond immediately to any objects or projectiles that may pose a threat to Jordanian territory.
Interception of Four Iranian Drones
In a subsequent development, the Jordanian military announced that it had intercepted and shot down four Iranian drones that it said were heading toward Jordanian territory.
A military source stated that Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft carried out the interception and shootdown operation on Wednesday morning after detecting the drones approaching from Iranian territory, confirming that the operation successfully prevented them from reaching their targets.
The source explained that the drone interception operation resulted in no casualties or material damage, noting that Royal Engineering Corps teams moved to the sites where the wreckage and debris had fallen, secured the areas, and dealt with them in accordance with the established technical and security procedures.
The Jordanian military reiterated that the Armed Forces remain on permanent alert to detect and respond to any aerial threats in a manner that preserves the Kingdom’s security and sovereignty, noting that the air defense systems and the Air Force continue to carry out their missions of monitoring the airspace and countering any potential threats in accordance with approved military plans.
