Kim Announces New Directions to Expand North Korea’s Nuclear Naval Power

North Korean leader “Kim Jong Un” announced that arming his country’s naval forces with nuclear weapons would move nuclear combat systems into the stage of practical use, in the latest statements by “Pyongyang” regarding the development of its naval military capabilities.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, “Kim” said that the navy would be capable of deterring what he described as the “invading enemy fleet,” stressing that a new warship could carry out “overwhelming retaliatory strikes” against adversaries at any time.

He added that the new vessel reflects the scale of development North Korea has achieved in just two or three years.

“Kim” revealed that his country is currently implementing an “important plan” to strengthen its naval forces, noting that its results will emerge within eight months, without the official agency providing further details about the nature of the plan or the capabilities it will include.

The North Korean leader pointed out that his country faces “constant threats” in the sea east of the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding waters, saying that “dangerous shadows must be erased,” in reference to what “Pyongyang” considers military threats in its maritime surroundings.

“Kim’s” statements come as part of North Korea’s efforts to strengthen its naval capabilities, with an increasing focus on introducing systems with nuclear capabilities into its naval forces.

The statements by “Kim,” as reported by the Korean Central News Agency, did not include technical details about the nuclear combat systems he referred to, or when they would enter active service, apart from the reference to a plan to strengthen the naval forces over the next eight months.
