International newspapers have pointed to the risks carried by the “Peace Council” initiative announced by President Donald Trump regarding the Gaza Strip, quoting other sources as saying that the United States has “lost its mind” during his term, based on polls indicating a significant decline in his popularity within just one year.

In this context, Julian Borger, the chief international correspondent for the British newspaper The Guardian, wrote that the Peace Council formed by the Trump administration in Gaza “looks more like an imperial court,” noting that joining it “undermines United Nations efforts and means submitting to Trump’s will and accepting his extremist vision for the future of the world order.”

Borger pointed out that despite the discussions regarding the council, nearly two million Palestinians remain exposed to bombardment and weather fluctuations, besieged in fragile tents and shelters, with no significant hope for an immediate return to their homes or a stable rebuilding of their lives.

For its part, the French newspaper Le Monde described Israel’s demolition of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) building in Jerusalem as a “fateful decision representing a new step in this government’s quest to prevent this key international player from continuing its mission of protecting Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon.”

The newspaper added that UNRWA is not the only international body under Israeli pressure, noting that Tel Aviv is also threatening to change the operating procedures of other international non-governmental organizations working in the Gaza Strip, including disclosing details about the Palestinian staff these organizations employ.

In an article published by Foreign Policy, former U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford suggested that the Trump administration “avoid repeating the mistakes of previous military interventions in the Middle East.”

Ford warned that “illusions or false wishes” that military intervention will automatically lead to democratic results have never proven effective. He emphasized that the administration must learn lessons from the past and not be deceived by an ill-conceived military adventure.

In another context, U.S. disputes with European allies over Greenland are increasing. The Wall Street Journal quoted European diplomatic sources as saying that the desire to adapt to Trump’s policies is “fading, replaced by a growing conviction that he may resort to force regarding the European North-West.”

The newspaper believes that the United States has “lost its sanity” during Trump’s rule, and that the U.S. break with allies is very deep, making it difficult to find a logical explanation for Washington’s current administration behavior outside the scope of the United States itself.

The Atlantic magazine featured an article by Jonathan Lemire, who emphasized that Trump fundamentally changed his country’s relations with the rest of the world during his first two years in the White House.

The author explained that “what has happened so far as a result of Trump’s policies does not balance against what might happen if he decides to proceed with seizing Greenland and deepening the rift with other countries in Europe.”

He added that this year of Trump’s rule was “akin to a foreign policy excessive in external interventions, starting from Iran, Syria, and Nigeria, reaching all the way to Venezuela and his move to kidnap its president, Nicolás Maduro,” as the author stated.

In conclusion, The Washington Post reported that many Americans “object to the policies pursued by Trump two years into his presidency,” noting that he “resorted to restructuring a large part of the government to make it more loyal to him, and that he weakened the federal government’s ability to respond to natural crises and the spread of epidemics.”

The newspaper revealed a poll showing that 57% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way he has managed the country during his term.
