Monday weather: Thunderstorms may cause flash floods in scattered areas

The National Center for Meteorology announced in its report today, Monday, forecasts of moderate to heavy thunderstorms over various parts of the Makkah region, leading to flash floods accompanied by hail showers.

The report also forecast light to moderate rainfall over parts of the highlands of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and the southern parts of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah.

It further indicated that active winds stirring dust and sand will affect parts of these regions, in addition to parts of Al-Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, the Northern Borders, the Eastern Province, and Riyadh.

Regarding surface wind movement over the Red Sea, the report explained that winds will be northwesterly to westerly over the northern and central parts, and northwesterly to northeasterly over the southern part, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h, reaching up to 50 km/h toward the Gulf of Aqaba.

Wave heights may range from half a meter to one meter, exceeding two meters toward the Gulf of Aqaba, while sea conditions will be light to moderate, becoming rough toward the Gulf of Aqaba.

As for the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northwesterly to westerly at speeds ranging from 17 to 34 km/h, with wave heights from half a meter to one and a half meters, and sea conditions will be light to moderate.
