Major General “Turki Al-Maliki,” official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, affirmed the continuation of providing full operational support to the Yemeni Armed Forces, as well as continuing to stand alongside the Yemeni government and people to end the coup and restore the state and its national institutions, thereby contributing to building Yemen’s future.
Al-Maliki described the actions of the Houthi group as “blatant violations” that have caused suffering and hardship for Yemenis over the years, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
He explained that these violations include ongoing attacks and repeated practices against the Yemeni people, including internal blockades, forced displacement from cities and villages, starvation, and the looting of resources and their use for what the group calls the “war effort,” in addition to insulting tribal sheikhs and members, tearing apart the social fabric, terrorizing women, and recruiting children in support of its project.
Al-Maliki added that the Houthis’ attacks on Saudi Arabia and their attempts to target Makkah and Madinah, along with the deliberate and systematic targeting of civilians and civilian objects in a number of Saudi cities, including Riyadh, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif, and Yanbu, as well as attempts to target Saudi vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, require the continuation of necessary measures to deter such actions and protect the Kingdom’s security and sovereignty, as well as regional and international security.
Al-Maliki affirmed the Kingdom’s “inherent right” to defend its sovereignty and protect its security, and to take the necessary operational measures to deter the Houthi group and stop its violations, based on its responsibility toward the Two Holy Mosques, its citizens, its national resources, and residents on its territory.
He stressed that Saudi Arabia would continue to stand alongside Yemen and its people until the state and its institutions are restored, the Houthi group is eliminated, and its threat to freedom of maritime navigation in the southern Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is ended. He considered this threat to undermine regional and international security and endanger global maritime and trade movement as well as the national interests of states.
