Two U.S. commercial vessels successfully pass through the Strait of Hormuz
CNN — The U.S. military announced on Monday morning that two commercial ships flying the American flag successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz, in parallel with ongoing efforts by U.S. forces to support commercial maritime traffic.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a post on X: “U.S. forces are providing effective support to efforts to restore commercial navigation” in the strategic waterway.
The successful transit of the two vessels comes one day after former U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to direct ships through the waterway, amid Iranian efforts to exert control over maritime navigation.
The U.S. military had previously announced that CENTCOM forces would begin supporting “Operation Freedom,” launched to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels.
