Investigations are still ongoing in the UAE into “Hamam Al-Hamami,” the co-pilot of a “Flydubai” flight that was targeted in an attempted attack last Wednesday, which nearly claimed the lives of around 180 people, while his social media posts revealed indications described as reflecting extremist views.
Following the failed attack, two posts appeared on Al-Hamami’s personal account on “LinkedIn.” One of them included a photo of “Ayman al-Zawahiri,” who took over the leadership of Al-Qaeda after the killing of “Osama bin Laden.”
Another post, published around 9 hours after the attempted attack, showed a video of Israeli aircraft, followed by images that included a suicide bomber and al-Zawahiri.
It remains unclear who published those posts or whether they had been scheduled in advance, particularly since Al-Hamami’s “LinkedIn” account was later suspended, according to CNN.
Previous comments by Al-Hamami on the “X” platform, through his account @pilothamam, showed extremist views toward women, including support for and justification of violence against them in some cases.
In one discussion, Al-Hamami threatened a woman, saying: “I will step on your head, wipe the floor with you, and make an example of you for others, then release you.”
In another comment, he appeared to support Russia during a discussion about a man who physically assaulted a woman, saying that the man “gave her a preemptive slap to redefine her boundaries,” comparing this to what he described as Russia “slapping Ukraine to redraw its borders.”
In another comment, he stated that women had become more brazen because they were “safe from punishment,” adding that in some parts of the Middle East, if a woman angered her husband, she “goes to sleep with a slap and wakes up with a slap.”
Investigations so far have shown that Al-Hamami acted alone and had no links to Iran, according to two U.S. officials cited by The New York Times.
The 29-year-old Al-Hamami, who was born to an Omani father and a Syrian mother, faces charges of attempting to carry out a terrorist act after using the emergency axe aboard a “Boeing 737 MAX” aircraft to attack the Indian pilot, “Smit Mashchar.”
