US Intensifies Strikes on Iran as Washington Expands Military Operations for a Second Consecutive Day
The United States intensified its military campaign against Iran on Wednesday, as operations entered their second day, increasing the pace of airstrikes and expanding the range of targets. According to assessments, the campaign could continue for several more days amid escalating tensions between the two sides.
According to Reuters, a US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Wednesday’s strikes would be more numerous and broader in scope than those carried out on Tuesday, as part of Washington’s ongoing military pressure on Iran.
In the same context, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a new wave of strikes, stating that the operations aim to degrade Iranian capabilities threatening freedom of navigation and ensure the uninterrupted flow of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes.
Explosions Reported Across Multiple Areas as Iran Says It Intercepted “Hostile Targets”
The US strikes coincided with explosions reported across several Iranian locations, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Jask, Abu Musa Island, Bushehr, Konarak, and Chabahar, indicating a widening scope of military operations.
Iranian state television reported hearing eight explosions in Bandar Abbas, along with two projectiles striking Sirik Port and two additional explosions at Jask Port.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Mehr News Agency said air defense systems intercepted “hostile targets” near Bandar Abbas, while the official IRNA news agency reported power outages in parts of Chabahar following the explosions.
Iranian media also reported that projectile fragments struck Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar, while Nour News quoted an informed source as saying the attack targeting Bushehr caused no damage to the city’s nuclear power plant.
Washington Continues Targeting Military Capabilities as Tehran Threatens Retaliation
The latest wave of strikes came one day after CENTCOM announced the completion of the first phase of operations, which targeted more than 80 sites using precision-guided munitions. The strikes reportedly hit air defense systems, command-and-control networks, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile capabilities, and destroyed more than 60 vessels belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
As operations continue, Israeli assessments suggest the US campaign could extend for several more days. Israel’s public broadcaster also reported that Washington informed Israel in advance of the timing of the attack as part of ongoing security coordination between the two allies.
Meanwhile, Nour News quoted an Iranian military source as saying the country’s armed forces are preparing a “large-scale” attack targeting US military bases across the region, underscoring the growing risk of direct military confrontation and further escalation.
These developments indicate that tensions between Washington and Tehran have entered a more dangerous phase, with military operations and mutual threats continuing as regional and international actors closely monitor the crisis and its potential impact on regional security and the safety of international shipping, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
