The Yemeni Armed Forces announced early Thursday that they had thwarted an infiltration attempt carried out by the Houthi militia through the Al-Ashbout and Najd Al-Bard areas in the Al-Maqatirah district of Lahj Governorate in southern Yemen, with the aim of cutting off the only road connecting Taiz Governorate with the interim capital, Aden. In a statement, the forces said they had forced militia members, following fierce clashes, to “retreat and withdraw after suffering heavy losses.”
A military source in the Tur Al-Baha Axis reported that the forces had managed to secure the area and reopen the road to citizens and travelers after the danger resulting from the infiltration attempt had subsided. Houthi elements had attempted to infiltrate through the Haijat Al-Abd stream from the Al-Akboush direction, with the aim of targeting the vital road, taking positions near it, and cutting off the movement of travelers.
The axis explained that warplanes belonging to the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out three airstrikes on Houthi positions and fortifications on the Al-Akboush and Al-Ahkoum fronts in the Hayfan district, south of Taiz. The command of the Tur Al-Baha Axis reassured citizens and drivers that the Haijat Al-Abd road was safe and passable, with no obstacles to traffic, confirming that trucks and vehicles continued to move normally.
The Houthi militia is seeking to cut off the “Haijat Al-Abd” road, which represents the only route for the flow of supplies and basic materials into Taiz Governorate, in an attempt to tighten the siege on the city and neighboring areas and isolate the governorate from the interim capital, Aden. The Al-Maqatirah area is militarily controlled by national forces operating under the command of the Tur Al-Baha Axis, whose area of responsibility includes the districts of Tur Al-Baha and Al-Maqatirah in Lahj Governorate, and the Al-Shamayatayn district, which is administratively part of Taiz Governorate. The axis falls under the Fourth Military Region, which is headquartered in Aden, while units of the Nation Shield Forces and the Southern Giants Brigades are deployed within its area of operations.
