German authorities arrest Lebanese national over alleged involvement in Hamas-linked attacks in Europe

German forces have arrested a Lebanese citizen suspected of being a Hamas member plotting attacks in Europe. The man, identified as “Mohamed S.”, was detained at Berlin Brandenburg Airport following his arrival from Beirut on Friday evening.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the man helped secure 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025 and participated in an alleged plot to direct attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions. The individual will be brought before a German judge to decide on his pretrial detention.

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip but has been severely weakened by Israeli military operations in the region, is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and several other countries. The Palestinian militant group carried out attacks on Israel in October 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostage. Meanwhile, according to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of military operations.

German authorities indicate that “Mohamed S.” conspired with “Abed Al G.”, one of three suspected Hamas members arrested last October in connection with plots to attack Jewish and Israeli institutions. The three perpetrators were arrested while meeting to exchange weapons in Berlin; two hold German nationality, while the third is Lebanese.

At the time of those arrests, police searches were also conducted in the cities of Leipzig and Oberhausen in Germany, according to a report by Der Spiegel. Later, in November, German authorities arrested another suspected Hamas member—also a Lebanese national—near the border with the Czech Republic.
