U.S. Treasury Secretary Calls on China to Join Efforts to Protect Maritime Security in the Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged the Chinese government to cooperate with the United States to enhance freedom of navigation and ensure security stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Secretary explained that U.S. President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed the Iranian issue during phone communications, expressing hope that Beijing would intensify its diplomatic efforts toward Iran, according to multiple sources.

Bessent indicated that the current stage requires international partners to increase pressure on Iran, stressing that the United States is the party capable of controlling the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, not Iran.

He also emphasized that the United States does not initiate the use of force unless it is attacked, adding that Iran’s isolated leadership may not fully understand the developments of the current situation.
