First flights of the “Makkah Route” initiative transport Guests of Allah from Côte d’Ivoire to the Kingdom
Today, the first flights of beneficiaries of the “Makkah Route” initiative departed from the city of Abidjan in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia via the initiative terminal at Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, heading to Prince “Mohammed bin Abdulaziz” International Airport in Medina, amid the presence of several officials from both sides.
The pilgrims were received and seen off by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, “Saad bin Bakheet Al-Qathami”, His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Amadou Koné, His Excellency the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire for Religious and Social Affairs Koné Idriss, and the President of the Supreme Council of Imams, Mosques, and Islamic Affairs Ousmane Diakité.
The initiative of the Saudi Ministry of Interior aims to provide high-quality reception and registration services for the Guests of Allah in beneficiary countries, where pilgrims are received and their procedures are completed in their home countries with ease and convenience. The services include capturing biometric data, issuing the Hajj visa electronically, then completing passport procedures at the departure airport after verifying health requirements, in addition to coding and sorting luggage according to transport and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom. Pilgrims are then transported directly to buses that take them to their places of residence in Makkah and Madinah via dedicated routes, while partner entities handle the transport of their luggage.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Interior is implementing the initiative in its eighth year in cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the General Authority for Endowments, the Pilgrim Experience Program, and the General Directorate of Passports, in integration with the digital partner (stc Group). Since its launch in 1438H/2017, the initiative has served more than (1,254,994) pilgrims.
