Major General Nasr Salem: Israel Uses Media Narratives to Portray Egypt as a Party to the Sudanese Crisis

Against the backdrop of ongoing developments in Sudan, Egyptian military and strategic expert Major General Nasr Salem expressed his reservation regarding reports published by the Israeli platform “N12,” which alleged the existence of a “secret air bridge” involving Egyptian aircraft headed toward Sudanese territory.

In an exclusive statement to Russia Today (RT), Major General Salem said that the repetition of such claims by Israeli outlets at this particular moment is not surprising. He emphasized that Israel has long been accustomed, during periods of regional escalation, to promoting narratives aimed at diverting attention from its actions in other areas such as Syria and Lebanon, in addition to ongoing developments in Gaza and the West Bank. He described these Israeli tactics as “polluted in all directions.”

He affirmed that Egypt’s official stance remains firm and clear—supporting the legitimate Sudanese state institutions represented by the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Mutual Accusations and Contradictory Narratives on the Sudanese Crisis

Major General Salem pointed to what he called contradictions in Israeli media coverage of the current Sudanese crisis. He explained that while some Hebrew-language reports claim that the Rapid Support Forces are receiving external support through regional channels, other Israeli narratives—presented in various “intelligence-style” formats—serve different political objectives.

He added that the purpose behind circulating such allegations is to push Sudanese public opinion toward believing that Egypt is complicating the crisis, potentially creating a perception among some internal parties that Egyptian military intervention exists. He viewed this as an attempt to redirect the overall narrative.

Media Narratives and Attempts to Influence Public Opinion

The military expert described these media-driven efforts as part of a “propagandistic narrative” aimed at portraying Egypt as a key actor in any tensions within Sudan, while simultaneously drawing attention away from ground developments and the mutual accusations unfolding across the region.

Cairo Reaffirms Its Position on Attempts to Impose a Diplomatic Reality in Jerusalem

Egypt’s condemnation of the so-called “Somaliland region” announcing the opening of a “fake embassy” in occupied Jerusalem comes within a broader context of official Egyptian positions rejecting any unilateral steps that undermine the legal status of the holy city or contradict international legitimacy.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it described as an “illegal and unacceptable step” represented in opening this alleged embassy in Jerusalem. The statement asserted that the move constitutes a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

This stance comes amid rising regional sensitivities surrounding issues of sovereignty and diplomatic recognition—controversies sparked by attempts to create political or diplomatic representations outside internationally recognized frameworks.

Cairo Warns of the Consequences of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Raid

In continuation of its firm diplomatic stance against unilateral actions affecting the legal status of occupied Jerusalem, Egypt strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, under the protection of Israeli forces, during which he raised the Israeli flag inside the courtyards. Cairo described the move as a blatant provocation to Muslims worldwide.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stressed that such practices represent a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its religious sites, warning that ongoing escalation could further deteriorate conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of repeated violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and any attempts to alter its religious or historical character, emphasizing that these policies intensify regional tensions and fuel cycles of violence and instability—especially given the continuing escalation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Part of a Broader Egyptian Position on Regional Escalation

Egypt’s stance reflects a broader policy rejecting attempts to impose new realities on the ground in relation to sensitive regional issues—whether concerning Jerusalem or matters tied to regional security dynamics. Cairo has consistently warned that continued provocations and violations could open the door to wider escalations that may prove difficult to contain.

This position underscores Egypt’s ongoing calls for restraint, respect for the existing legal status in Jerusalem, and adherence to international frameworks as the main pathway to avoiding a broader regional explosion.

This report highlights the continued use of media narratives to inflame regional tensions—particularly in Sudan—and the attempts to drag regional actors into crises they have not officially engaged in. Meanwhile, Egypt reaffirms its support for Sudan’s state institutions and rejects unverified allegations, maintaining its broader policy of de-escalation and respect for state stability amid media and political polarization.
