In a post on its official “X” account, the organization stated that the incident affected a total of six people, including three who died, while another was transferred to intensive care at a hospital in South Africa.
In a related context, the World Health Organization explained that it is currently facilitating coordination between member states and the ship’s operators in order to arrange a medical evacuation for two passengers who have begun showing symptoms suspected to be caused by the virus, in addition to conducting a comprehensive public health risk assessment and supporting the remaining passengers on board the ship.
It added that the name of the ship or the company operating it has not yet been disclosed.
