Hossam Hassan’s Contract Extended Until 2030
The Egyptian Football Association announced on Tuesday the extension of the contract of “Hossam Hassan,” head coach of the senior national team, until 2030, allowing him to continue leading the “Pharaohs” during the upcoming period and through the next World Cup, following his leadership of the national team to a historic achievement during its participation in the finals held last summer.
“Hassan,” 60, successfully led Egypt to its first-ever victory in World Cup history after the national team defeated New Zealand in the group stage, before its journey ended with a 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16, in a match in which the “Pharaohs” delivered a strong performance against the team that went on to reach the final.
The Egyptian Football Association said in a statement that, in implementation of the Board of Directors’ decision to approve the renewal of the senior national team’s technical staff contract, an amicable meeting was held during which the contract of “Hossam Hassan,” the head coach, was renewed until 2030.
The association had announced last July that it had approved extending the head coach’s contract, before forming a committee comprising several board members to study the details of the new contract, including its duration and personal terms, leading to the official completion of the agreement.
Hassan’s Journey with the National Team
“Hossam Hassan” had previously explained that he had been working with the national team alongside his brother, “Ibrahim Hassan,” the team manager, without a contract since February 2026, before the Egyptian Football Association settled the renewal and provided the technical staff with the stability needed to continue its mission over the coming years.
“Hassan,” the Egyptian national team’s all-time leading scorer, took charge of the “Pharaohs” in February 2024 and successfully guided them to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, returning Egypt to the global tournament for the first time in eight years.
“Hassan” also led the national team to the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, before continuing his journey with the team at the World Cup, where he became the first Egyptian to participate in the World Cup as both a player and a coach.
In the finals, the Egyptian national team advanced from the group stage after drawing with Belgium and Iran and defeating New Zealand, reaching the knockout rounds for the first time in its history. In Egypt’s first match in the knockout stage, the team faced Australia in the Round of 32 and secured the victory on penalties, setting up a Round of 16 clash with Argentina.
Despite taking a two-goal lead over Argentina, the Egyptian national team surrendered its advantage during the final minutes of the match after conceding three goals in the last 11 minutes, bringing Egypt’s campaign to an end despite recording its best-ever performance in World Cup history.
During his time at the helm of the national team, “Hossam Hassan” achieved 20 victories, six defeats, and nine draws, earning him the opportunity to continue his project with the “Pharaohs” until 2030.
The Egyptian national team’s attention now turns to upcoming commitments as it prepares to face Angola and South Sudan on September 25 and 29, respectively, in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. These matches will mark the first stage of the new era under “Hossam Hassan” following the renewal of his contract.
